WE'RE CHANGING LIVES! Michael (not his real name) is a teenage boy incarcerated at the Augusta Youth Development Center. He had kleptomaniac tendencies, never completed homework assignments, and was frequently in detention for fighting with peers. Foster Grandparent Alexandria Ishman was assigned to mentor Michael. Within a month, his assaults on others decreased tremendously, he had no disciplinary referrals for stealing, and he began completing assignments. Julia Coleman, Michael's teacher, reports, "Michael was once an angry child who lied, stole, and fought. Now I see a child who is happy, willing to get an education, and has goals. I am so happy that Ms. Ishman began working with Michael. I have seen him transformed into a positive young man."

+ Our Mission
Our mission is to
provide a diversity of services to seniors, and to enable them to apply their experience as a resource for meeting critical
community needs.
Get Involved!
Everyone needs a little help, including us. As a non-profit organization, we depend on donor's gifts of time and dollars to support and grow our programs.
Ways to get involved:
-
Make a cash donation. Your gift of $25 will provide an annual physical exam for a Foster Grandparent or Senior Companion, or a month's milage reimbursement to an RSVP volunteer. And only $4,800 a year will provide 20 hours of weekly in-home assistance to frail elderly adults. A gift of $50 will provide forms and documents for 4 low-income individuals who are not able to pay for these documents.
- Help plan fundraising events as a member of a Senior Corps Advisory Council committee.
- Provide a case of copy paper or other office supplies.
- Answer the agency's telephone one day a week or for several hours.
- Speak at a monthly Foster Grandparent/Senior Companion Program in-service meeting.
- Donate personal care items during the "Shoeboxes for Seniors" campaign. Let us know if you are interested in helping to pack the shoeboxes.
- Hold a limbo stick, fill water balloons, or make potato salad for the annual Foster Grandparent/Senior Companion Volunteers appreciation picnic.
- Join our Board of Directors.
We will soon be able to accept donations via credit cards through our website. For now, we welcome your checks or money orders. The Senior Citizens Council is a charitable non-profit organization under the provision of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and your contributions are tax-deductible as provided in Section 170 of the Code.
