WE'RE CHANGING LIVES! Michael (not his real name) is a teenage boy incarcerated at the Augusta Youth Development Center. He had kleptomaniac tendencies, never completed homework assignments, and was frequently in detention for fighting with peers. Foster Grandparent Alexandria Ishman was assigned to mentor Michael. Within a month, his assaults on others decreased tremendously, he had no disciplinary referrals for stealing, and he began completing assignments. Julia Coleman, Michael's teacher, reports, "Michael was once an angry child who lied, stole, and fought. Now I see a child who is happy, willing to get an education, and has goals. I am so happy that Ms. Ishman began working with Michael. I have seen him transformed into a positive young man."
